Our son has been dealing with a difficult illness over the last year that has resulted in his being hospitalized monthly for 4 days at a time to receive infusions. Danell has been the "consistent point" for his repeated trips to the hospital. They may seem insignificant to some, but when he arrives, his room is already cooled to his 62 degree liking, his Gatorades are ready for him, and he's made to feel like he's checking in to a luxury hotel! Danell remembers him, remembers details about him, and engages him like he's "part of the family." This goes a long way in making him feel not just comfortable, but allows him to forget that he's in the hospital. She's quick and good with his IV stick, too - which is important! When he spent time in the ICU several weeks ago, he was glad to see Danell come down to visit and check on him - and when she did, it didn't seem like a nurse checking in - in was more like family coming to visit!
