Doran is a nurse who genuinely cares about her patients. She has this amazing heart and you can tell by her interactions with patients and family members. There are many times where I have stopped by to admire her kindness and caring behaviors, and one particular story sticks out the most.
Doran was teaching our pre-op total joint class one day. She was talking with a patient and his wife and she could tell that he was nervous about the upcoming surgery. She spoke with him about his concerns and helped ease his fears. When the class was over she stated that because his surgery was so late the kitchen would likely be closed by the time he arrived to the floor. The patient smiled and told her that every night he and his wife have a routine of sharing a banana split. He joked that he'd have to wait until he was home to enjoy his treat.
The day of the patient's surgery came and Doran went above and beyond for this patient. When the patient arrived to the floor Doran was waiting to greet the patient and after getting him tucked and settled into bed she told him that she had a surprise. She had arranged for a banana split to be waiting for him and his wife to share. The patient and his wife were shocked by the thoughtfulness of her actions.
