Michael has consistently fulfilled the mission of the VA by serving and honoring the men and women who are America's Veterans. As a former serviceman himself, and a nurse for five years, he has taken additional leadership roles on since coming to the VA SORCC. He has co-chaired the Nursing from the Hearth program for three sessions, he is the Chair for the Nursing Professional Council, Chair for the Evidence Based Nursing Committee, and is encouraging LPN's and CNA's to come up with projects and learn how to apply nursing research for solutions. He has also played a lead role in getting new nurses trained as CTA's so there will be even more nurses here at the SORCC to lend themselves as mentors to nursing students. He encourages his nursing staff to pursue committee work and find other leadership roles at the SORCC.
In all of these roles, he always has the time to address interdisciplinary issues in order to strengthen the performance of his unit and while having an extremely busy schedule, he now manages two departments. He still manages to have a positive attitude, to display extraordinary compassion for his patients and staff and make a significant difference in the life of all the Veterans in his care.
