Christy is a great team player; she treats everyone with dignity and respect. She lives our core values from the time she walks in the unit until the moment she leaves.
Recently, Christy was caring for a small newborn girl, just 1 pound 5 ounces. The mother was having a particularly hard day. Christy reassured her and stood by her side while they introduced skin-to-skin contact for the first time, something that others might not have supported given the small size of the infant. But Christy realized the value of this contact for both the newborn and her mother. This small gesture resulted in a sacred encounter as the baby thrived from the experience and both Christy and the mother were crying with tears of joy.
Christy is one of our 'unsung heroes' in the NICU. She is honored with this award because of her humble spirit, critical thinking, and collaboration on the unit and for the excellent care that she provides to our tiniest of patients.
