When I went into labor 2 months early I was so very fortunate to have Leah as my nurse. She immediately made me feel comfortable and built a connection with me. I was so scared of what would happen and she consistently reassured me, kept me calm and kept me in the loop of all that was happening and the decisions being made. She helped me focus, relax and relieved my anxiety. I was able to completely trust her from the beginning, which was important because my umbilical cord prolapsed so it turned into an emergency fast. She immediately told me what to do and acted very fast in what she needed to do. Although it was very serious, urgent condition, I was confident in her knowledge and abilities.
While being rushed to the OR with her keeping the cord in me and pressure off of it, she was continuously reassuring me that I was doing great, telling me what was going on, what was going to happen, all while keeping the other nurses and doctors updated. It was such a whirlwind and scary time, but Leah made it much easier. All the staff did wonderfully, but especially thanks to Leah, I have emotionally been able to handle what happened better.
Our baby came out with an Apgar score of 9/9 and great cord gas results, a testament to her great job. I'll always remember the journey Leah helped me through before, during and after delivery. She truly went above and beyond in caring for me and connecting with me.
