Kristen was so gentle and loving when my mother came into the hospital, septic with several co-morbidities. She gave me and my sisters all the information we needed to make a sound decision that respected the wishes of my mom. When the intensivist on call was unavailable, she explained the limitations she had to act upon our decision and helped us craft a plan B, keeping my mom as the focus of all intentions and actions.
Shayna was right there with us that morning when we began comfort care. She never left our side as we waited for Mom's life to end. The truly unique part of our whole experience was that Kristen and Shayna were the very same nurses who cared for my brother-in-law five months ago when he died of aortic dissection in CVICU. Their consistency of integrity and care is superior. Our whole family feels the deepest level of love and affection for this dynamic duo. We feel blessed to have had their guidance as we watched our loved one's transition to the next life. They have earned membership into our family's "most favorite people" list. We will forever feel indebted to them for their compassion and experience that has made two family tragedies much more bearable.
