Bernie Krol, RN, BSN, was concerned about the patient's condition following the recovery period of an outpatient procedure and monitored her through the evening. The patient's condition became worse causing the need for an emergency procedure.
In the nomination submitted by the patient's daughter, she explained, "Thank God for Nurse Bernie's knowledge. Nurse Bernie's expertise was so appreciated that night by my entire family."
During what became an extended stay in the hospital, Bernie visited the patient even though she was no longer her assigned nurse. The daughter concluded, "She deserves this award. She goes beyond her calling as a nurse. She is thorough, kind, compassionate, and just an exceptional nurse. Thank you Bernie."
