Katie was nominated by numerous members (RN, PCA's, and PCC's) on our pediatric unit. Katie goes above and beyond for all of her patients all of the time, as well as attending to the needs of other patients who are not assigned to her team on any given day.
There was a family of 3 young boys (not from this country) who were involved in a motor vehicle accident, where they lost their grandmother, whom they were visiting for the summer. Their nanny, who accompanied them, was in another hospital. The rest of their family was thousands of miles away, awaiting assistance from the embassy to travel to the US. Katie made sure to advocate for one of the boys who was on our unit. His brothers were in the PICU. She stayed with him throughout the day, played games, read, encouraged him to eat, got him special treats from the gift shop, and basically did whatever she could to brighten his day. She was now a familiar face in an unfamiliar place. When he was finally discharged, his brothers then came to the floor and she assumed the role of advocate and friend once again.
Katie is a wonderful human being and a dedicated nurse. She has mentored many RN's throughout the years and is a very valued member of our staff. We are so proud of her.
