I wanted to commend Carol for sharing her knowledge and expertise with Same Day Surgery when a patient's shoulder splint fell off. The patient returned to SDS from PACU and needed to use the restroom repeatedly. Through her multiple trips up and down to the bathroom - her arm fell out of the sling. She had had a block so the arm had no movement or sensation and was hanging limply at her side. I tried repeatedly to contact the Ortho tech to no avail. I called the Ortho floor but the nurses were too busy to come and help (this happened around 6:30 pm) as it was the end of their shifts. The OR nurses were not able to help either so I called PACU to see if any of the nurses there might know how to position the sling properly. We had placed the sling but it didn't look just right to me. The patient and I were very grateful and the patient was then able to be discharged. I feel Carol deserves recognition for her cheerful and willing attitude in coming to our assistance so quickly. The patient and her husband were also very grateful!
