Mr. B. was transferred to J3/MSDU early in Kristina’s shift with significant challenges including the family’s concerns regarding the management of his care.  The patient was accompanied by his wife who began verbalizing her concerns even before Mr. B was moved from the stretcher to his bed.  Kristina acknowledged the wife’s concerns and managed the additional family members as they proceeded to arrive.  Kristina answered each one of their questions and assured them that their concerns would be addressed while managing the patient’s guarded condition.  Kristina’s professional approach in dealing with the family, their concerns of the events leading to Mr. B’s transfer and constant communication with them helped to establish a positive relationship for the team and patient.  The wife was beyond thrilled with Kristina’s care of her husband and she left the following note for her: “For Kristina:  We have been so fortunate to experience the intelligence, the intuitive and trained knowledge with her experienced hand. With speed, she has set new IVs, delegated all directives from doctors and consistent satisfaction of the comfort needs of my husband.  By far, she is excellent, caring, dedicated, in charge and most capable.”I truly believe if Mrs. B was aware of the opportunity to nominate Kristina for this award, she would not have hesitated to have done so herself.
