Today I came into work early to visit my grandma who was admitted the night before. When I walked into the room, my grandma was sound asleep, but her nurse Samia was sitting at her bedside. I just wanted to peek in on her and make sure she was comfortable, but I got a great deal more than I expected.

When I started talking with Samia, it was clear that she was very informed on my grandma's history and care. She was very kind and caring, and regarded my grandma as a sweetheart while we were talking. She was sitting with my grandma, and she told me that her other patients were able to do for themselves, but my grandma wasn't, so she wanted to be there in case she needed anything.

She shared with me that her grandmother remembered in her last moments the nurses that made an impact on her. I knew that Samia would be that nurse for my grandma!

Samia took my number and called me to reassure me that my grandma had eaten a good breakfast, since we talked about how she had a poor appetite. It was clear to me from my interactions with Samia today that she is a nurse dedicated to her patients, and she has made a significant impact on my grandma, my family, and myself.

Thank you Samia for all you do for your patients, you truly are a nurse deserving this award.
