On a Caribbean Airlines flight en route from Miami to Piarco International Airport, Trinidad, a 32 year old, male passenger had a seizure and aspirated in the restroom. The patient was cyanotic on discovery. Wendy Forde answers the page for any medical personnel on board the flight. Wendy with the assistance of another passenger performed CPR, with mouth to mouth resuscitation without any protective gear on this young man for one hour and 30 minutes until the flight was diverted to Puerto Rico. They were able to deliver the passenger to the paramedics with a pulse. The individual, unfortunately died in the hospital.
I nominate Wendy Forde for a DAISY Award, because of her unselfish act of kindness and loyalty to her caring profession as a nurse. Even when not on duty, she was willing to go above the call as a nurse by putting her self at risk for infection to save another persons life. This is a true DAISY Award Honoree.
