Lauren went above and beyond for a patient outside of her patient assignment. A progressive care RN, she had given report and clocked out. But after visiting her locker she noted that a patient was in distress. He had an uncontrollable nose bleed and was covered in blood. She momentarily stepped in the room to lend a hand to the overwhelmed day shift nurse. Physician orders demanded that the patients nose "be held" for 15 minutes and/or until the bleeding stopped. Lauren quickly seeing the events before her, jumped into action. The patient who was unable to hold his own nose due to a pre-existing condition was truly in a pinch but Lauren was there! All smiles, Lauren remained 1 1/2 hours after her own shift to hold pressure to a patient's nose that was not even her patient to begin with. Moreover, the two of them stood and exchanged conversation for the 1 1/2 hours. Lauren, who had to return to work that night, did not complain one bit. Once she was able to help achieve coagulation of the nose bleed, the patient thanked her with tears in his eyes exclaiming that she was his angel.
