I wanted to let you know a little about how our time at Providence went. From the moment our son was transferred from JBER to Providence we felt welcomed. We had no idea what was causing our 1 day old son's breathing problems but we felt more at ease that he would be well taken care of. The first night we were sent home since there was nothing that we could do and our son was exhausted from all he had been through at JBER.
The second night I stayed the whole night without my husband and was able to interact with our son's nurse, Amanda Gill. She helped me more than she could ever know. I was scared, nervous, swollen and in pain. Amanda was so patient and kind. Our son's heart rate would dip very low every time he would start to fall asleep and his oxygen levels would go down when he would get upset but she was so comforting. She let me know what was going on and even asked a woman who I believe is part of the transport team to come in and verify that our son's heart rate was normal for him (he was born full term) and that when his oxygen levels went down that it was really just him holding his breath and not another problem. Amanda also spent some time with the two of us making sure that I knew what was going on with him, helping me feel comfortable trying to feed and change him as well as just talking to me. She was very personable and knowledgeable to the point that I was sad she was not our son's nurse a second time. Amanda was so great to have there on what was a very scary night for me. I not only told my husband about her but I have also told our friends about her when asked about our time at Providence.
I was impressed with all the staff we came in contact with but Amanda made a lasting impression on me. I am so thankful she was my son's nurse that night, she was exactly who I needed to meet at that exact time. Not only was she wonderful with my son but she was amazing with me.
