I would like to recognize Shawn Blouin for the exceptional work he has done and continues to do at Martin Health System. Shawn is a critical care registered nurse who has worked for our organization since 2006, initially as an emergency medical technician and nurse intern and eventually as a registered nurse. He has been an extraordinary nurse with many attributes that deserve recognition.

Not only has Shawn demonstrated the knowledge and compassion of a well-rounded critical care nurse; he has clearly stood out as one with extraordinary understanding and motivation in the field of critical care medicine. There have been countless examples of Shawn contributing significantly to the successful management of critical care patient, as well as being a vital team player in their care.

Shawn is well respected by his peers including his fellow critical care nurse, directors and the physicians involved in the care of critical care patients. When Shawn is involved in a patient's care, he is fully aware of the specific complexities of their case, and has been very organized in the approach that he takes to assure that their needs are met to the best of his ability. He is always striving to learn more and has been an avid educator of those around him, including his patients and their families and the many staff members that he interacts with regularly.

Personally, I have been extremely impressed with Shawn's abilities, his optimism, and the desire he has to improve outcomes and ultimately to do the best for our patients. I have worked closely with Shawn in the management of neurological patients. He has also worked very closely with me on the development and revision of the Therapeutic Hypothermia process. Shawn has been paramount in making this program what it is today at Martin, and has many ideas and goals to further expand and improve this program to allow our patients the benefit of better outcomes. He has not only attended cutting edge lectures and had discussion with leaders in this rapidly changing therapeutic hypothermia field; he has been instrumental in bringing this knowledge back to our institution and incorporating this into Martin Health System protocols. He is currently in the process of developing and chairing a "Code Freeze Team" that will allow for rapid recognition, assessment, and implementation of hypothermic treatment in appropriate patients.

We have been fortunate to have Shawn Blouin as part of our health system, and look forward to his continued remarkable efforts. He clearly has been a very integral part of the success of Martin Health System and in particular, our critical care team.
