Gemma had a patient with acute cerebellar infarction. The patient was admitted straight to step down with hypertensive emergency. His MAP pressure was very high despite being on cardene drip. Gemma was very concerned with his pressures and the possible consequence of this. Once the patients MAP reached 140, she communicated her increasing concern (please note she had already expressed her concerns prior, during rounds), although the patient was still neuro intact she could see changes that prompted her to call immediately. Stat CT had shown compression of the 4th ventricle and patient went for emergency craniotomy. Nurse Herrera saved this man's life. She has always shown to me how great she is as a nurse but I believe she deserves a DAISY award for going above and beyond. She is amazing!
