I met with a patient today as the Mom Baby case manager, she had her third baby today. Her older sons are ages 12 and 10. She did not breastfeed them and had not considered breastfeeding this child either. Deb Humphreys was in charge and went to do the baby's transition. Deb talked about the baby being awake and alert at "rooting." The patient had not heard the term rooting before. Deb suggested the patient try breastfeeding; she placed the baby skin to skin assisted the patient. She was teary eyed when talking about what a beautiful experience it has been and to hold her baby skin to skin. She said Deb is one of the sweetest, calmest and most knowledgeable nurses she had ever met.
