I am a student in the associate of science nursing program at Blue Ridge Community and Technical College. Holly Legg was my preceptor for my capstone in the Pulmonary Unit. My purpose in writing is to share my experience with you about Holly and other members of the staff in the Pulmonary Unit.
I feel very fortunate to have had Holly as my preceptor. It was truly the best clinical experience I have had. She allowed me to participate in all aspects of patient care and shared her vast knowledge at every turn. Most of all, she put her patients’ care and well-being first, and built their trust in her and in Winchester Medical Center. Every patient that she had, every day I was there, exhibited much gratitude and faith in her. What a difference that kind of nurse makes in a patient’s stay, and their life. It cannot be underrated!
I was so appreciative of Holly’s willingness to include and instruct me throughout each clinical, and to discuss all aspects of care. Her interaction with the support staff and her peers was awesome. They all have a great team spirit, and they truly seem like a “family”.
I will never forget the things I learned during this clinical and will always be inspired by Holly Legg’s example of what nursing is and should be.
