Debbie is an exceptional nurse. Her compassion for her patients is exemplary! It's difficult to pick one particular patient or instance that Debbie made a profound difference in because she treats all of her patients the same. I will, however, choose one patient that stands out. This patient had been coming to our department for almost a year for IV antibiotics after surgery. Debbie became instrumental and actually the lead caregiver for him in our dept. She never hesitated to call the MD when things weren't progressing or the wound actually looked worse. She found ways to make it easier for the patient to receive his daily dosages by making sure he could park closer. When things weren't going so well the patient's wife confided in Debbie and told her of his depression. She was present for him and encouraged him to keep fighting. There was always laughter involved when he arrived for his infusions. She never let him give up. Even after 2 more surgeries and more antibiotics. He had become one of the family. It was fitting that she be the one to give him his last infusion, flush and pull his PICC line. With all her other patients Debbie is the best educator I know for pre/post-operative instructions. There is no doubt that she puts her patient's safety first and will go to bat for each and every one of them. Debbie is a true DAISY Nurse.
