First of all this was a nurse who recieved 3 unique nominations all from different patients and thier families
1. "Hands down one of the best nurses to care for my mom. Always polite and you can really tell she really cared about my mom. Becky would always let us know what she was doing and why she was doing it. Becky would encourage us to ask questions and would always know or find the answer. She made sure we were all comfortable as well! She was absolutely wonderful!"
2. "Becky was one of our dad's nurses in the ICU after he had triple bypass surgery on November 5th. He had to return to the hospital from LindenGrove with pneumonia and a bladder infection, and he was put on some pain medication. He wasn't doing very well, but Becky remembered that he didn't tolerate pain medication well, and he improved a lot when he was taken off of it. Becky is an energetic and caring person, and we would be thrilled if you would give her this award."
3. "I believe Becky normally works in a different area. She was quite compassionate in helping getting my IV in. The first nurse had trouble because I was dehydrated. Becky worked calmly and slowly to make it as easy as possible for me to get the IV in my arm. Thanks to her!"
One more letter recieved about Rebecca was from her mother who we secretly called to be part of the DAISY award ceremony (along with the rest of her family). She took it upon herself to look up the DAISY foundation and send a very heartfelt letter.
It is as follows and was directed to the Barnes family
My name is Mary. I am writing to you because something happened tonight that I find truly amazing. Our daughter Rebecca Tetzlaff is employed as an RN at Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls, WI. We had a phone call ronight from aother RN also employed at CMH inviting us to a celebration there next Wednesday because Becky had been selected to recieve the 2009 DAISY award! We wer told this award is given based on nominations by patients and is veryprestigous. After thanking her and ending the conversations, my husband and I felt so proud and excited we wanted to know more about the award. We went online and dound your website. What we read there stunned us. You see, 17 years ago, Becky's sister AMy was diagnosed with ITP also. She battled this disease for a year, and because it hadn't resolved itself, she had a splenectomy. Thankfully, the surgery worked and Amy's platelet count returned to normal. All was well for a few years, but sadly, Amy started having severe joint pain and trouble with her circulation in her hands and feet. She was then diagnosed with mixed connective tissue disease, also an autoimmune disorder. She is now 29 years old and still struggling with this debilitating disease, while raising her family. becky and Amy have always been best friends. Becky is not only a caring nurse to ehr patients, but a source of strength and support for her sister as well. She not only shares her nursing expertise with Amy, but she is there for her when she needs help just dealing with a chronic illness. We are so sorry that you lost your Patrick to this horrible disease. We are thankful everyday that Amy is still with us. God bless you and your husband for the work you do through your foundation. Sincerely, Don and Mary Weltzin
