Mary was caring for a newborn, who because of her tenacity and persistance in pushing and verbalizing concerning symptoms to the appropriate people, ended up getting a diagnosis and treatment which included corrective surgery. This newborn came in with common symptoms that were chalked up to the primary diagnosis but were actually masking a second diagnosis which, if Mary had not followed her intuition, could have led to potentially dangerous consequences for the baby. Mary has superb assessment, communication and persuasive skills and that child's story ended up being a happy one because Mary was his nurse.
