During a time that is supposed to be joyous, Kris helped support a grieving family and an overwhelmed MCH staff thru a difficult time. Labor and delivery had cared for a patient thru her labor. She had come to us excited and expecting to delivery a healthy baby. Her husband was also supportive and excited to share this life-changing event with his wife of five years. During the fnal stages of labor the patient suffered an aneurysm, became unresponsive and required immediate cesarean section, delivering a healthy baby girl. As her child's life began, Nicole's life ended. Nicole was transported to the SICU postop. The SICU staff accepted her graciously during this time of turmoil. A shocked labor staff was extremely grateful for the support of their peers in SICU. Kris cared for the patient with devoted attention for over 48 hours. She showed professionalism, caring and compassion for her, her husband and her family. While physicians consulted and ordered tests and procedures to facilitate Gift of Life, Kris cared for the physical well being of the patient and mental health of the MCH staff and family. She was truly amazing. Each discussion the physicians needed to have with the family Kris supported the family. Everything the patient needed physically was provided. Kris was supportive to the staff in SICU and answered any questions and knowledge deficits regarding the patient's care. Kris supported perinatal loss care for this family. Kris helped position the baby in the patient's arms with her husbands support while taking photos for the baby. Kris returned on her day off to support Gift of Life care to the patient and the OR team. Thru this tragic event the professional care Kris displayed was remarkable, impressive and supportive.
