Joann has been a part of Cook Children's for many years and is the epitome of an outstanding nurse. Her skills are awesome and her bedside manner and rapport with patients and families are even better. She is always on top of things and can anticipate potential problems before they even occur. She is an integral part of the 5 North day shift camaraderie. JoAnn is always willing to go the extra step for her patients, even at the expense of delaying her own wonderful time management. Families speak very highly of her and they frequently request her back as their nurse. They leave wonderful comments for her on surveys. A recent example of JoAnn's excellence in action: She was assisting one of her peers with an admission near the end of the shift. The patent coded soon after their arrival to the unit. JoAnn participated in the entire code, helped transfer the patient to the PICU and stayed to support the patient's mother well into the next shift. Only after all of that did she return to completely chart on her own patients that shift. In summary, JoAnn has the character and qualities that exemplify excellence in nursing.
