Christmas night in particular, this long-term patient was very ill. Michelle knew exactly what to do and who to call. She delegated the care of her other patients to her colleagues so that she could remain in this child's room ensuring he was receiving the critical care he needed. As the charge nurse that night, I felt as if I was working with a nurse who has been here on this unit for 10+ years. Michelle was so compassionate and gentle with this patient that it brought tears to my eyes. Even though she is a novice nurse, I had to recognize what a great job she did that night. The patient was cared for to the best of our ablity on the floor while the PICU made room for the transfer. She was collected and calm reporting off to the PICU nurse and the patient made it down there without any rush or condition being called. I know she will do great things in her career as a nurse here at Children's after witnessing how well she works in a critical situation. I'm happy to be working with a nurse like Michelle.
