In June of 2009, Dave Spicknall will celebrate 25 years of nursing at UI Hospitals and Clinics! For most of these 25 years, Dave has cared for critically ill patients in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit, where both physicians and nursing colleagues recognize his excellence in nursing practice and his compassion for patients and families. Dave excels as a preceptor and mentor, teaching critical nursing skills and critical thinking to new ICU nurses, and nurturing their development into experts.
Dave truly cares for his co-workers and was nominated for the DAISY Award by Kelly Ernst RN, an Assistant Nurse Manager in the SICU who noted how in truly hectic times Dave always manages to remain calm and thank his co-workers who work together as a team to deliver acute care to critical patients. Ms. Ernst also stated she would feel honored if he were to take care of any of her loved ones.
