I have worked with Linda Hamilton for 13 years. She has always been a team player, always willing to jump in and lend a hand when anyone needed help. On one particular day, I was approached and informed that maternity, labor and delivery, and pediatrics were all completely full. We needed to take two maternity patients to help with their overflowing patient load. As surgical nurses, this does not come as an easy transition. Even though we learned mother/baby in school, for many nurses, it has been a long time since we have had anything to do with that.

As the charge nurse on the floor, I huddled my team together and informed them of what needed to be done. You could clearly see and feel everyone's anxiety increase. Linda was the first one to step in and suggest that one nurse takes both patients to keep the care consistent and she offered to give up two of her patients to take the new moms. I have always looked up to Linda and trusted her, so when she said she would do it, I backed her. I assisted her in getting these new moms to our floor and settled and she just adapted to the needs of the floor. Linda exemplifies the iCare values every day but she truly stood out on this day!
