Carly invests herself in every interaction to effectively assess the needs of those she serves. Carly maintains regular and predictable schedules with our customers and is acutely in tune with current and changing needs. While providing exemplary psychiatric nursing care, she is a model team player in coordinating efforts across her team and with outside physical health providers. She brings a positive attitude and "can do" approach to the team and her duties every single day. Carly has an unwavering commitment to ongoing quality improvement and is a leader for change. Carly is a relentless advocate for those she serves, whether it be with the team or in regard to outside entities. Her collaborative, highly respectful approach helps to build positive and effective relationships with others in relation to those we serve. Carly is the role model for community-based psychiatric nursing. She is undoubtedly a significant force of recovery, dignity, and respect as she quietly and unassumingly leads our nursing corps to ongoing excellence. She carries herself with a striking level of humility for one that is so skilled and effective.
Carly is a model for respectful and compassionate care. There are endless examples of her selfless and creative care with customers that have truly enhanced their lives. She has helped a customer get a bike so he could engage in meaningful activities, created a YouTube video with another to promote his novel, taken one customer to see a musical and another to see a movie he had a role in. Countless stories of her creative efforts to provide hope and joy for folks who historically are treated with indifference at best.
One of the most touching examples of Carly's caring and excellence occurred with a chronically depressed customer with highly complex medical needs who had lost all will to live and continue the "fight". She developed a strong therapeutic rapport with this individual that allowed for honest and sometimes raw conversations that at times were incredibly difficult. She incorporated this woman's family and spiritual community in her care and support. Despite all collaborative efforts to help this person find a desire to stay alive she ultimately could not find that desire within herself. She made the very uncomfortable and sad transition from helping one get better to helping one prepare to die. She worked tirelessly with this customer, her family, spiritual community, and medical providers to prepare for departure. Thanks in large part to Carly's involvement, this individual was supported with the highest level of compassion, understanding, dignity, and respect. This customer's last moments were free of pain and she was surrounded by family and loved ones.
