I would like to nominate Sandra Lucatero from the Emergency Department as a deserving recipient of The DAISY Award. This nurse's clinical skill and especially her compassionate care exemplify the kind of nurse that our patients, their families, and our staff recognize as an outstanding role model.
Sandra is being nominated for this award because of her unwavering advocacy for all patients but particularly in vulnerable patients. Sandra is tireless in her work with children of our community and patients dealing with Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.
Sandra has assumed the responsibility of educating staff about mandatory reporting, photo documentation of injuries from violence and needed nursing documentation. Sandra volunteers in her free time to answer calls with questions about mandatory reporting, photo documentation, and sexual assault exams.
Sandra regularly receives notes of appreciation from patients and families. They note her calm demeanor, compassion and sense of humor. When patients or families complain, Sandra will always intervene by listening to the complaint, trying to right the situation whenever possible and attempting to defuse the situation with humor, if appropriate.
Regardless of what situations arise in the Emergency Department, Sandra remains calm and gives not only patients but also staff, a sense of comfort because she responds to all situations in a calm and positive manner with a "can-do" attitude.
