I just spent some time in your hospital. No time in a hospital is pleasant; however, mine was quite bearable because of the complete care I received. During my stay, I experienced many staff members scurrying about performing their duties in a professional and compassionate manner. Although all of your nurses, doctors, and specialized staff members treated me well during my stay, I would like to single out one for special recognition. Matthew Demas, RN. He was extraordinarily competent, professional, and compassionate and deserves much praise for the manner in which he cared for me while in the hospital. Matthew stands out in my mind as being the best of the best, especially how he related to me and my illness.
In Matthew's case, he kept me informed about my condition, my medications, the need for tests to be run and then went out of his way to ensure I had transport to those test sites when they were needed. When it came time to catheterize me, I was quite apprehensive due to other experiences I've had in my life. He assured me he would do it with as little pain and discomfort as possible and he was true to his word. It is the first time in my 75 years of life that the procedure didn't send me through the ceiling. He performed all of his duties with competence and quality, never once causing me anguish or the need for concern. He explained every medication he gave me and its purpose. He took my vital signs with the least interruption possible. For a man who has only been an RN for seven months, he was truly impressive in every respect.
Medical professionals such as Matthew are worth their weight in gold to the public eye and put the proper picture on how Pottstown Hospital and Tower Health are trying to make a better medical environment for the communities they serve.
