Atlanta is a fantastic forensic nurse who goes beyond to help her patients. The Forensic Dept. sees patients who are victims of crime including but not limited to human trafficking, domestic violence, and sexual assault. Atlanta has helped many patients who are literally at their worst.
Recently, Atlanta started to talk to a patient that the Emergency Department staff was concerned about being the victim of human trafficking. Atlanta showed up with a friendly face and talked to the patient. Atlanta did not just ask simple yes or no questions. She wanted to get to know this patient and who they were and what brought them to the hospital. The patient built such a rapport with Atlanta that she discussed being a prostitute and about how she wanted out. Atlanta offered to help this patient make a police report, but the patient declined. Respecting the patient's wishes, she instead shifted her focus to helping the patient transition out of prostitution. Atlanta provided this patient with resources for a local organization called CORRC who helps survivors of human trafficking and prostitution. She stayed with the patient as she made the call. This patient left the hospital later that night with a representative from CORRC. This patient was saved because of Atlanta.
