Our son was born in July and due to complications during birth he suffered traumatic brain injury and passed away just four days later. During those four days our world was shattered, and our hearts were broken. Brenda was there the last two days of his life and I could not be more thankful to have had her as his nurse. She was so incredibly caring and understanding as we went through the most difficult days of our lives.
Brenda made sure we had enough time with him where we could hold him and care for him. Brenda was also there when he took his last breaths and without her, it would have been even more Earth-shattering than it was. I knew she cared for him so much, it is something I will never forget. She made sure he was never left alone, even after he passed away. Not only did she allow us time to grieve alone with him, but she was there as we bathed and dressed him for the last time before we said goodbye. When we left the hospital, Brenda found someone to stay with him, so she could walk us out to our car. While our outcome was devastating, I will forever be grateful to Brenda and the other nurses we worked within the NICU. I wish there was a greater way I could thank them because even a thousand "Thank you"s would not be enough.
