Our patient previously came into the infusion center on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for hydration. However, the patient had a weekend that caused him great anxiety with his rapid deterioration due to the nature of his disease and not receiving hydration for a couple of days. Since that time the patient now also comes on Saturday for hydration. The experience that this patient had has not been forgotten and he becomes very anxious if there is ever a concern that he will not be able to make it in for his hydration appointments.
This past week the patient was very concerned that he would not be able to make it in for his hydration appointment over the weekend due to the blizzard that was forecasted to hit our area. Alice offered and arraigned ahead of time for her husband, who has four-wheel drive, to pick up the patient and take him into the hospital for his scheduled hydration appointment. When that day came, not only did Alice and her husband pick up the patient, but Alice also offered to be his nurse over that time period which allowed the nurse that was scheduled that weekend to be able to be home and not worry about driving in to work with less than ideal road conditions. Alice's actions went above and beyond for patient care and also for her co-worker.
