My family was completely blown away by the amazing care that my dad received while in the ICU. I was especially touched by his nurse, Beth Ballenger.
My dad suffered from a stroke and Beth was so patient, encouraging, loving, and compassionate towards my dad. He absolutely lit up when she entered his room. She not only provided care for him medically, but also mentally. She interacted with him just like us. She made him laugh and shared stories about her own family. He enjoyed hearing about her children, two dogs, and lack of creativity with her cooking/baking abilities. She even brought him ice cream after dinner one night. She said "Mr. W, it's our secret and I brought it because you're so special to me." He feels the same way about her! My dad is not typically too emotional, but he teared up quite a few times as he referred to her as "family". She not only did her job, but also treated her patient with love and care.
I also felt comfortable speaking with her because she explained medical terms in a way that I could understand. I even cried to her and she calmed my fears and answered my questions. Beth exemplifies excellence, expertise, compassionate care, and a positive/upbeat attitude, even when she was busy or tired. She deserves this award and so much more! We love her.
