Being hired to work on PCU as a new graduate and then being floated to ICU his first week off orientation, we wondered how Andrew would handle it. Now it's a year later and everyone knows Andrew is a skilled and knowledgeable RN and shows true passion for his career. I personally breathe a sigh of relief when Andrew is working. His patients will be well cared for. Countless times I have had patients ask if he will be the nurse caring for them tonight, while explaining why they had such a good experience the previous night. Andrew isn't afraid to call doctors at night even if it is for the littlest thing for the patient. "It is my job to speak for the patient" he has said. He shows true compassion and goes above and beyond what is required of him.
These are just a few reasons why Andrew is deserving of this award. All who work with him know what an exceptional nurse he is and I feel he should be recognized for it. Things I have noticed about Andrew-He prioritises well and has good time management. He picks up extra shifts when PCU has staffing needs. He is a very knowledgeable nurse that people go to when they need help. He seems to have more confidence and knowledge base then some nurses working for years.
