In recognition by a peer, it was expressed Tracy goes above and beyond for her patients and coworkers.
For example, one evening while being Charge Nurse, a critical elderly patient came into the department altered and intubated. Due to current visitation policies, the family was unable to come to see the patient until COVID-19 was ruled out.
Tracy kept the family updated and brought them back into the department as soon as the test resulted. During her discussions with the family members, it was decided that patient would be a DNR and all life support measures would be stopped. The patient was ready to go up to ICU, but Tracy spoke with both the ED physician and intensivist and insisted the patient remain in the ED, to be extubated and pass peacefully with family by her side.
The patient passed away with her daughters playing her favorite song, and Tracy made sure the patient was comfortable, asking for comfort care medications. The family members were very appreciative, as all they kept saying was, "I don't want her to die alone on Mother's Day."
