Recently we were called to evaluate a homeless gentleman referred to Senior Haven. I accompanied Misty to meet this patient to learn the evaluation process; instead I learned a lesson in compassion. We found ourselves talking to a man with terminal cancer that had been abruptly evicted from his home and dropped off by a "care giver" with all of his belongings dropped off on the street with him.
Misty pulled a chair up to this man and began a kind and calm discussion and ensured him she would do everything possible to help him through is ordeal. The relief and gratitude on his face was evident. After admission to the unit, Misty went out of her way to call his docs, pharmacies, and hospice agency to obtain as much information as possible and she also ensured we had the proper equipment on the unit to care for him.
Many times you hear stories about making a difference. . .I know that today Misty made a difference in the life of this man.
