My brother is an integral member of our family. And although he has been sick for some time after suffering a stroke, he continues to be a source of strength and humor for us all.
It was devastating for me to walk into the ER and see just how sick he was. He had taken a fall and was on a ventilator. Our family did not know what to expect or where to turn.
My brother received excellent nursing care from all who cared for him. However, Geo gave me strength and courage to hold onto my faith and allow the magic of healing and care see my brother through this horrific ordeal that was so hard for us all to bear witness to.
Geo is such a compassionate, professional and understanding nurse. She worked so hard to achieve all of the little milestones that were required to control his blood pressure, manage pain and agitation, wean sedation and ultimately wean him off of the ventilator. Geo was there every step of the way; even through our very difficult family conference where difficult decisions were discussed and made. Geo was the first nurse to identify eye tracking, purposeful movement. My brother also followed direction from her for the first time. I teased that he liked her! I have had a wonderful, almost 40-year nursing career of my own. I have met and practiced alongside many great nurses over the years. Geo exemplifies the epitome of what nurses are all about; the care that we all strive to provide. If I or any of my loved ones were to ever require critical care, I would most definitely want Geo to be my nurse.
