I nominate Mellisa Thompson for the DAISY Award. I am so grateful for the compassion she demonstrated in her care of my mom, and also for me. My mom was dying and was on 300 West for quite some time before being transferred to CCU. We became attached to several of the staff but I was particularly impressed with Mellissa’s compassion.
On the night my mom coded, I was especially distraught. The code happened right about the time Mellisa’s shift was ending. She not only comforted me but she came to CCU and sat with me for two hours – her kindness and compassion were instrumental in helping me through that crisis. Having her there just to sit with me made a tremendous difference in my ability to cope with such a stressful situation.
I would like everyone to know what a compassionate nurse Mellisa is – I believe the DAISY Award is a perfect way to do that.
