From the time I met Stephanie, I could honestly see she had the heart and personality to be in this field. I have never seen such a patient, kind, and professional nurse. She is always willing to help her fellow co-workers and goes above and beyond what she is asked to do. I am so impressed with her happiness every day and look forward to working with her. In one specific example, out of many, Stephanie showed compassion and caring for one of our patients we had together. This patient was recently transferred to the unit and was having some pain control issues. Stephanie was so patient and kind with the patient as we did patient care. The patient was having a panic attack and was in excruciating pain so she used what she knew about the patient which was that she loved to sing. She took out her phone and played her favorite artist and instead of focusing on the pain they sang together and Stephanie danced around to try and create a distraction to allow the patient to calm down and take her mind off the pain. She would encourage the patient to hold a note with her as I continued to do patient care. She and I spent over an hour with the patient, doing anything and everything we could to make her comfortable. I watched her in awe of the lengths she would go to, to make sure her patient was comfortable. She was truly meant for this profession and I would be honored for her to care for myself or one of my family members. I know she will go on to do great things in her future and I hope she leaves behind nurses who are half of the nurse she is.
After talking with her for a couple of minutes or watching her interact with patients, she is a true example of what a nurse should strive to be. I don't know if she even realized it at the time, but she truly made a difference for the patient, and it truly made my day to be a part of it.
