Andrew Ruffner certainly stands out among his many interactions with patients of all ages. He doesn’t just talk to patients, but he carefully listens to them. He emulates dignity and respect in his kindness, mannerisms, and interactions with patients and staff.
Andy’s coworker writes, “He has the most altruistic approach to patient care at this level, which I have rarely seen in the 20 years of working in health care. I witness him assisting the injured and distraught, showing compassion towards children, and treating the elderly with the utmost respect they deserve. He helps individuals in and out of their cars, gets them drinks, or a warm blanket when needed. He laughs with them and consoles them. Even when the patient or family is not being nice or cooperative, he always remains compassionate. He does so not because it is his job or because it’s the right thing to do, but because that is who he is and he couldn’t do it any other way.”
