I nominated Rhonda Grande for the DAISY Award because she demonstrates the values of St. Luke's and lives our mission. She exemplifies our values: Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence. She lives our mission by giving excellent patient centered care.
I have worked side by side with Rhonda for over a year now and have watched her many times cry when one of her patients was not doing well, give up her scheduled lunch time to care for a patient, make sure everyone of her patients was bathed and had their linens changed, even when she had groups of over 9 patients, make her patients' comfort her main priority during her shift, speak softly to a patient who was hostile, feed many patients who were unable to feed themselves and consequently end up missing her own lunch, advocate for her patients, listen to each of her patients attentively and patiently even when they seemed to be rambling on, and hug her patients good-bye when they were discharged. She knows her patients; when I help her boost or get a patient up to a commode, she briefs me first on what the patient likes, doesn't like, what hurts them and what keeps them comfortable, etc.
I've heard her patients speak of her in the kindest ways, telling me of her gentleness toward them and the compassion she showed to them during their stay. If I were a patient in our hospital, I would want Rhonda to by my CNA. She pays attention to the details and doesn't let anything go unnoticed. She alerts the nurses and DCN's when she feels something is awry. When she is here, she works hard. I've seen her sweating on many occasions because she was making sure she got every shower and linen change completed on her shift. I've listened to her give and receive report and she is thorough, making sure every nuance is communicated because she knows it's important. When she's having a rough day, she doesn't let it show to her patients. They all think she is cheerful and fun.
Rhonda is an amazing CNA and I think we are so lucky to have her on our unit. She makes me proud to work in Telemetry.
