I was having my first baby! This was such an exciting and emotional time for my husband and me. Labor and delivery went smoothly and while I began my recovery, a change in my condition was noted and quickly acted on. Unfortunately, I had the experience of light-headedness, hypotension, nausea, severe pain, and passing out at the expense of an accessory lobe placenta. During the change of shift and among the many staff members flooding the room, my night nurse, Rhonda, was present. I remember her soft voice explaining what was going on. She helped me recover, constantly monitoring my vitals, communicating with my physician, and most importantly caring for my newborn baby. She had great nursing skills and judgment and noticed respiratory changes in my baby, requiring him to be sent to the Special Care Nursery.
With the whirlwind of events that occurred in the four hours following the delivery of our baby, I always look back and think how fortunate I am to have had Rhonda by my side. Being a nurse myself, I know the duties of the “job”, but Rhonda wasn’t just doing a job. She was doing what she loves and it shows. Rhonda has an amazing job of aiding in bringing new life into this world. She is an exceptional nurse who goes above and beyond to touch her patients.
