Connie Floyd is a registered nurse (RN) who practices on the 3 Surgery unit. Connie is being honored with the DAISY Award for going above and beyond for the patients and families she cares for. Connie is described by her patients as being concerned and caring. She is able to make her patients feel special and truly desires for her patients to have the best care she can offer. She does everything she can to make her patients stay as comfortable as possible. Connie’s patients feel that she takes care of their every need.

In one particular situation, Connie stayed on her unit after working her shift for two hours to comfort an emotionally upset patient. Her loving and nurturing touch calmed the patient down. This patient stated that Connie had the right words to say and actions to comfort her. She appreciates how Connie stayed until she was calmed down and the tears subsided.

Connie is described by her peers as an excellent mentor/preceptor for new nurses as well as co-workers. They make note of the high quality compassionate care she shows to others and how she encourages them to do the same. Her peers feel that she is a vital member of their staff and are happy to have Connie as a part of their team.

Because of Connie’s compassionate and caring efforts, her patients experience a level of care that exemplifies the impact nurses have in creating an environment where patients and families feel at home.
