I have 8-month-old twins who exclusively breastfeed. They refuse bottles because the breast is all they've ever known. On a Tuesday, twin B was admitted to the PICU for respiratory distress. The hospital told me siblings could not stay the night per hospital policy. This left me in a bind. I had two babies to feed every 3-4 hours but had to choose one that would go hungry. Twin A was also showing early signs of respiratory distress, so I opted to go home with her and pray baby B would drink pumped milk or formula.
She wouldn't. She was going to end up dehydrated and on an IV if this continued. Stephanie intervened on our behalf. She alerted the nursing director and explained why the hospital needed to make an exception to the rule for us.
She truly puts her patient's best interest first and understands "rules" and "policies" are secondary to patient care.
