No matter the shift, patient, or situation, Rachel never fails to give the most thoughtful, empathetic, and sincere care. As an ICU nurse, she is always thinking critically/thinking one step ahead to predict/prevent what may or may not happen. Additionally, Rachel goes above and beyond to improve her skill as an RN to enhance her care. Within a year and a half of being an RN Rachel has acquired many certifications (FCCS, CCRN, CSC, and CMC). Throughout her time here at DMC, she has taken leadership by being charge RN and is a reliable resource to go to when in need to ask a question. The vigilant and compassionate care she provided has enhanced our unit in every way possible.
As previously stated, within every patient Rachel gives exceptional care. However, one patient/situation stands out. We had a patient on our unit for over a month. Throughout that patient's time on our unit, he had experienced many difficult times, from having ECMO placed at bedside, to being paralyzed, to having CRRT run to eventually withdrawing care and passing away. Over his stay, Rachel had him almost every shift she worked. During that time, she gave great thought and detail into this patient's care. If something didn't seem right, she would speak up. If something could be improved, she would make a well thought out suggestion. Shift after shift she collaborated with all staff members to give this patient the best care possible. Not only did Rachel care for the patient, but his family as well. She made sure the patient's family always understood what was going on and that they were comfortable themselves (such as offering them water). Rachel was with this patient and his family to the very end and I can not think of a better nurse to have taken care of him. It is, for this reason, I believe Rachel is a true DAISY Nurse.
