I would like to recognize Lindsey Scherwinski for the DAISY award. My dad was a patient in CICU. He has been a patient at St. Luke’s many times and the care we received was always wonderful. Nurse Lindsey, however, really stood out.
During a very critical time in my dad’s life, Lindsey took the time to make a real connection with us. We were deciding whether to move to hospice care. Lindsey collaborated with all the physicians to make sure they understood what we were thinking. She took the time to explain to us what would happen next and be sure our questions were answered. Our anxiety melted away as we moved forward with this decision.
Lindsey was so sweet and clearly cared very deeply for us. She anticipated what would be needed next and prepared us for this. She sat with us while the palliative care CNS spoke with us and gave us time to talk about our concerns. We never felt pressured to make a decision and Lindsey helped us with this transition every step of the way. It would have been easy to feel rushed in a busy ICU, but Lindsey set the tone “I have time for you”.
As we leave St. Luke’s for the last time, this will be what we remember. Lindsey, You made the difference for us.
