This is what Jane’s Clinical Manager commented about Jane:
Jane is truly a wonderful person. She is always smiling, radiates positive energy and just seems to go with the flow. Jane is very flexible, hard working, and never complains when she is asked to do something. She is a team player and steps up when assignments need to be changed or someone feels as if they are drowning. Jane will always be there to help. Her compassion is evident in every interaction she has with not only every patient, but with every person that she meets. Jane’s coworkers and managers alike say she is very personable and will always take into the account the patient’s whole environment not just what is happening to them in the hospital. She really cares about what is going on with the patient in their outside lives and tries to develop a personal relationship with each individual that she cares for. This allows the patient to truly feel as if they are being cared for by someone who has their best interest at heart. Jane just doesn’t look at the patient in the bed, she looks beyond the diagnosis, beyond the tubes and machines, beyond the look of terror on their face, and will take the time to seek out that one aspect of someone’s life in that given moment to bring a smile to their face no matter what the patient may be facing or going through. We love having Jane as a part of our CCU family and couldn’t imagine the unit without her smiling face. Thank you for all you do Jane!!!
Jane was nominated by her co-worker:
I would like to nominate Jane Riley RN from CCU for the DAISY Award. Jane can be typically found sitting at her patient’s bedside holding a hand or sitting and talking with a family during trying times. I would like to recognize a recent event that Jane displayed her exemplary CREDO behavior.
Jane had been caring for a young quadriplegic patient for a few days, she noticed his birthday was coming up and during a conversation with this patient (whom was connected to a ventilator to his tracheotomy), she asked him what he wanted for his birthday. The patient responded by mouthing the words "a party". Well that's all Jane needed and she decided to act on this. The evening before his birthday Jane had gone to the store a purchased, streamers, balloons, party hats and horns, birthday signs and even a party blower ( the only thing that he could manage to do was blow in this and make it un-curl).
Jane with the help of co-workers that night, after midnight, went into the patients room and started to sing Happy Birthday as they quickly transformed his room into a party room. Streamers draped many ways across his ceiling, Happy Birthday signs and yes even balloons attached to his side rails. The patient was all smiles, one of the few things his illness has left him with is the ability to express himself thru facial expressions.
I wish I was present for all this, but when I came into work that afternoon of his Birthday the patient was grinning from ear to ear when I wished him Happy Birthday and commented on his room decorations. Even more exciting was the several visitors, that stopped by his room and wished him a Happy Birthday!! He had "a party" all day in the CCU, just what he had asked for.
An even greater joy was to see his family enter his "party room" when they came to visit. CCU is truly lucky to have Jane on their team, her Compassion and Respect for her patients, families and co-workers is overwhelming.
What a tremendous employee you have working in CCU at Oakwood Main. We are truly blessed to work with such a wonderful Nurse!!!!!
