Sherrie was making patient rounds and encountered a young man with diabetes who was developmentally delayed and had limited knowledge about diabetes. The patient and Sherrie talked about how he could improve his diet by eating more vegetables. He was unsure of what to buy and how to cook the vegetables. Sherrie spent time teaching him about a diabetic diet and how to steam vegetables at home. She also printed out pictures of healthy foods and packaged steam vegetables for the patient to take home and with him when he went grocery shopping. Sherrie also contacted the dietician to provide further information to the patient before he left the hospital.
