All of the nurses and CNAs on 4SW were wonderful and provided excellent care. However, Charina stood out! She gave professional care, but when beyond that by providing the little extra that showed caring and compassion. She brought a warm blanket to help relieve severe stomach cramps. She used baby powder to keep my skin from sticking.

I would think of something I needed or had a question I wanted to ask, and before I could press the call button she was walking in with the needed item or had an answer to my question. She always explained things clearly and in a way I could understand.

Once she had to hang some IV potassium. I mentioned that I thought I did not need it. She checked my potassium level in the computer. She let me know that for a few days my levels had been fine, but on this day my levels had dropped and that is why she had the IV.

When I needed my dressing changed she used saline on the gauze in my incision so it wouldn't stick and pull on my incision. It was all these little things that Charina did to make sure I was as comfortable as possible that showed she cared. She is a true example of being a professional nurse, and a kind, caring, compassionate person.
