Edie had a patient that was admitted for a pelvis fracture. This patient was so worried about her husband (who has progressive Alzheimer's) that was taking a cab to the hospital to see her. He arrived safely to her room and they were visiting. The patient dozed off and when she woke up she panicked because he had left the room. In her condition she could not go looking for him. I was informed that he left and went looking for him. He was found in the ER parking lot and brought safely back to her room. Edie sought out people from her church and called her husband to see if someone from the church could sit with him. Well in the matter of 30 minutes Edie found a couple that knew this couple. The other couple came in to visit her and sit with him. The pastor of the church came and someone else took the husband overnight to keep him safe. In the meantime Social Services came and spoke to their daughter in Florida and she is planning on coming to Michigan. Just for Edie reaching out and making a phone call, everything fell into place (divine intervention). She pulled the community together for a helping hand. As I think about this day and the kindness she showed I'm proud to say I'm her colleague.
